Letter from Australia

This is a weekly update from Australia, written by a person who has a tendency to ramble (one of the main features of bloggers, maybe?). Inspired by the one and only Alistair Cooke, recently departed in April 2004, age 95.

Illusion, Illusion
Thou enslaveth Mankind
Thy husband Deceives
Thy children Blind
Thy cousins Love and Hate
Maketh Torment and Suffering Thine kin
There is no room for Truth;
The old enemy outnumbered a hundred to one

Melancholic heart
Flailing arms grasp at air
Despairing lips tremble
Desperate eyes sorrow
Meeting is Nature's blessing
Parting is Nature's curse
Heaven brings together
And tears asunder
Celestial might
Mere mortals cannot fight
Genius is but Fate's fool
E'en Solomon is God's carving tool

The child that no one loves
Is like an angel
Calmly, silently
Sitting unseen by society

In this world full of deceit
Filled with false dichotomy
The child is swept away
Loses all self-identity

Who will love this lonely child
Not th'disciples of greed
Not the prisoners of pain
Nor the teachers of emnity
But by far the greatest
Of the worst of tragedies
Is the forsaking of innocence,
The child turns back on himself

The new dawn beckons
Time passes after time is past
Look back no longer
For what proceeds will pass by regardless

Eyes shut to History
Direct their gaze to Reality
The road lead where it will
Eyes look upon hesitantly
